About the role

A problem isn’t truly solved until it’s solved for all. That’s why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide risk analyses and assessments at both the system and component level (e.g., battery, laser, etc.), associated with design, manufacturing, and possible misuse for products.
  • Define and oversee hardware certification test requirements and validate testing reports for accuracy, completeness, and ensure all mandatory requirements are properly accounted for in filing packages.
  • Perform optical safety testing to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60825-1 and IEC 62471, and advise teams on proper application of the standards.
  • Perform safety testing to simulate faults and validate design and safety performance.
  • Communicate certification status and issues in a clear, succinct, and timely manner to all impacted teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience with optical safety certification testing.
  • Experience in hardware safety compliance.

Preferred qualifications

  • 5 years of industrial experience in one of the following industries: medical devices, consumer goods/products, aerospace/defense, consumer electronics, semiconductors, or display/lighting.
  • Experience in safety standards including optical safety standards (e.g., IEC 60825-1, IEC 62471, IEC 60950-1, IEC 62368-1).
  • Experience with laboratory and problem-solving equipment related to safety testing.
