Technical Program Manager, AWS Worldwide Public Sector Engineering (WWPSE)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) · Arlington, VA · 2 wk ago
Information TechnologyFull-time

What Sets This Role Apart

  • You partner upstream with the leaders who own a market - working backwards from their biggest priorities rather than waiting for work to be handed down.
  • You own engineering engagements end-to-end - from deciding what's worth building, through delivery, to handing a finished solution off to the customer or partner who will run with it.
  • You work at the intersection of Sales, Solution Architecture, and Engineering, and you're the one who drives where engineering capacity creates the most impact.
  • You measure success by scaled impact - solutions that many customers can reuse - not one-off projects.
  • You'll co-build alongside AWS service teams and partners on problems that genuinely can't be solved any other way, using AI both to accelerate how we build and to deliver AI-powered solutions to customers.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Anticipate where your vertical is heading and shape strategy, getting engineering involved early where it makes the biggest difference - including where AI is the critical path
  • Own the qualification mechanism that drives which opportunities receive engineering investment, weighing scale, reuse, complexity, time-to-impact, and delivery risk
  • Set and apply the bar that qualifies an engagement - scalability, reusability, multi-customer applicability, force-multiplier potential - and make the hard calls on those that don't clear it
  • Work side by side with engineers through the build, making the architecture, scoping, and tradeoff decisions that determine success - you own the technical outcome, not just the schedule
  • Drive co-build execution with AWS Service Teams and Partners, applying AI to accelerate delivery and create reusable patterns that benefit many customers
  • Own delivery end-to-end from qualification through transfer, resolving technical and cross-team ambiguity without escalation
  • Keep leadership current on investments, outcomes, and realized impact
  • Influence peers and partner teams, and mentor less-experienced engineers and program managers

About the Team

AWS Worldwide Public Sector Engineering (WWPSE) is a field-deployed engineering and AI team that unblocks top public sector priorities - helping partners scale, reinforcing AWS Service Teams, and building solutions that endure. You'll be an embedded engineering lead in one of our verticals - US Federal (FedFin, FedCiv), Healthcare & Life Sciences, or State/Local Government & Education - working across Sales, Solution Architecture, and Engineering, and applying AI to how we build and what we deliver. This is a hands-on delivery role, not a coordination one: you're in the build with engineers, making the technical calls, accountable for the outcome.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of technical product or program management experience
  • 4+ years of software development experience
  • 4+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Experience with Cloud platforms (preferably AWS), database systems (SQL and NoSQL), AI tools for development productivity, contributing to open-source projects, and/or version control systems
  • Experience working cross-functionally and driving decision making among stakeholders with competing goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
  • Experience in the public sector
  • Experience in co-build or joint development models with service teams, ISV partners, or SI partners
  • Experience qualifying and prioritizing engineering investments based on scale potential and business impact (vs. bespoke, single-customer delivery)
  • Familiarity with engineer capacity planning, portfolio prioritization frameworks, and deployable unit-style resource allocation models
  • Experience surfacing technical impact through business metrics and sales operating rhythms

Pay

Base salary range: $127,100 - $172,000 USD annually (Arlington, VA and Herndon, VA locations). Total compensation includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Mental Health Support
