About WILX: WILX, the highly rated NBC affiliate located in Lansing, Michigan, has served the community for more than 60 years and is on a growth trajectory. Our respected main anchors live in the community and have made WILX their career home, including the longest-running sportscaster in the state of Michigan. Mid-Michigan (Lansing/Jackson area) is a vibrant, diverse, and stable region, home to the state capital and Michigan State University. It offers a great quality of life, with easy access to Grand Rapids, downtown Detroit, and Michigan’s scenic northern destinations. The area features lakes, boating, fishing, camping, beaches, downhill skiing, wineries, craft breweries, Broadway shows, Big 10 sports, minor-league baseball, and professional NFL/NBA/NHL games.
Responsibilities
- Direct live and pre-recorded productions as assigned for WILX-TV10, including newscasts, station productions, and web channel elements.
- Operate and maintain proficiency with Ross Overdrive automation, Ross production video switcher, MCR/Harris automation, Utah House routing system, VizRT graphics, and Adobe Photoshop.
- Perform operations with supporting equipment in Production/Master Control, including robotic camera operation, prompter operation, audio operation, and in-house web production.
- Handle live truck operations and internet-based video operations (e.g., Skype or similar).
- Understand and comply with FCC program and transmitter logs, as well as FCC broadcast regulations.
- Work with ENPS, the newsroom computer system, and prepare media for news as needed.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all equipment in studios and production areas, ensuring proper care and maintenance.
- Collaborate with other departments to meet daily operational demands.
- Train new personnel as assigned.
- Assist in maintaining clean studios and production areas.
- Adapt to a variable work schedule due to changing shifts, turnover, station projects, and potential overtime for regular employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Newscast directing, Master Control, or Technical Directing experience in a system nearly identical to WILX.
- Operating knowledge of PCs and graphics computers (VizRT knowledge and experience preferred).
- Understanding of FCC broadcast regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Pre-employment drug screening.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Schedule
- Variable work schedule due to production and operational demands, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Regular and reasonable work attendance is required.
