This includes identifying and executing technology development projects to advance high-temperature applications, as well as improving existing densification methods such as Carbonization, Graphitization, PIC, and CVI, along with associated tooling and equipment to enhance core technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead application development for diversified high-temperature opportunities, including concept development, analysis, fabrication of composite parts/assemblies, and testing. This may involve technically and programmatically leading customer-funded and IRAD-funded projects/programs.
  • Provide input and prioritization for research and technology development activities to increase the differentiating value of 3D woven composites and expand application opportunities while delivering increased benefits to customers.
  • Focus on engineered textile applications for hypersonics and ceramic matrix composites (CMC).
  • Drive prioritization of activities within the Research & Technology (R&T) organization.
  • Develop strategic planning and technology roadmaps for areas of responsibility.
  • Stay current with industry trends in technology development and best practices; participate in relevant industry events.
  • Maintain the technical focal point for communication—both externally and internally—for all high-temperature activities within the R&T organization.
  • Drive new technology advancements into production programs for high-temperature applications.

Requirements

  • Technical leadership experience.
  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Textiles Engineering, or Materials Science; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of experience in high-temperature composites processes and supporting practices in a relevant Research & Development or production setting.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for polymer and ceramic matrix composites.
  • Relevant experience in aerospace materials and structures, including injection, infusion, and high-temperature conversion methods.
  • Strong engineering design and mechanical skills, particularly in tool design. Knowledge of composite materials mechanical behavior is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with DOD programs.
  • Experience in the design and fabrication of thermal protection systems (TPS).

Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of 3D woven composite component design geometry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 3D weaving, forming, and high-temperature processes, with the ability to support design activities for appropriate solid models and tooling.
