Technical Laboratory Assistant

This role involves performing phlebotomy and a variety of technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory. The position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities

• 70% Phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on job location, with adherence to Safety and Infection Control practices.
• Provide customer service to clinicians, clients, physician office staff, clinical staff, laboratory associates, patients, and their families, including service recovery where necessary.
• 15% Associated computer-related tasks (e.g., LIS, e-Source).
• 5% Training new employees and students.
• 5% Adherence to regulatory compliance, including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH, and Laboratory Policies and Procedures.
• Maintain competencies and complete mandatory required education (ACE).
• Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (Required).
• Driver’s License (Department of Motor Vehicles).
• 6 months to 1 year of experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing.
• Associates working in a skilled nursing facility setting must have an active driver’s license and carry personal auto insurance.

Schedule
