About the role
Per Scholas is seeking a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) instructor to join our National Training Team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, problem-solving individual with strong technical and instructional skills, who can adapt quickly to a dynamic environment and maintain a strong sense of accountability.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instructor-led training that prepares students for the (ISC)² CISSP certification and careers as Information Security Managers, Security Architects, Security Consultants, and CISOs.
- Teach advanced security concepts across the eight CISSP domains, including Security and Risk Management, Asset Security, Security Architecture and Engineering, Communication and Network Security, Identity and Access Management, Security Assessment and Testing, Security Operations, and Software Development Security.
- Facilitate hands-on lab exercises involving security assessment tools, cryptographic implementations, network security configurations, and identity management systems through the ACI Learning platform.
- Evaluate student performance using scenario-based assessments, domain-specific practice exams, and structured performance checklists.
- Provide students with relevant supplemental resources for deeper learning on security concepts, industry certifications, and best practices.
- Dedicate capacity (e.g., 10% of non-instructional time) to professional development, technical upskilling, curriculum modernization, and contributing to the product’s retrospective/evaluation cycle.
- Work closely with the instructional and curriculum development teams to provide feedback on lab effectiveness, learner pain points, and content clarity.
- Maintain and update Salesforce and/or our LMS with student grades, certification scores, attendance, and performance notes.
- Support and maintain training curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and classroom materials, identifying areas for improvement based on delivery experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Strong technical aptitude (Google Workspace, LMS platforms, Zoom, project management tools).
- Excellent written communication, presentation, and classroom management skills.
- Strong evaluation and data management skills.
- Ability to interpret and convey complex security frameworks, standards, and regulatory documentation.
Skills
- Technical proficiency in security governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
- Technical proficiency in cryptographic systems and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
- Technical proficiency in network security architecture and secure communication protocols.
- Technical proficiency in identity and access management (IAM) systems and federation protocols.
- Technical proficiency in security assessment and penetration testing methodologies.
- Technical proficiency in incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning.
- Active (ISC)² CISSP certification is required.
- Significant prior experience leading security programs or consulting engagements for enterprise organizations.
- Experience with SIEM platforms, vulnerability management tools, and cloud security architectures.
- Additional industry certifications such as (ISC)² CCSP, SSCP, or CAP, CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or CASP+, ISACA CISM, CISA, or CRISC, GIAC certifications (GSEC, GPEN, GCIH).
- Experience delivering competency-based or hands-on technical training programs.
