Technical Engineering Manager (API & Cloud Engineering)

Responsibilities

• Owes coding, test and implementation of scalable APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications supporting critical business capabilities.
• Participates in expert level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases.
• Integrates third-party products and ensures expected application performance levels are achieved.
• Hires, evaluates, and supervises team members. Provides guidance and training to support development. Sets performance standards, conducts performance reviews, and makes compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Evaluates emerging technologies and recommends solutions that improve performance, scalability, security, and developer productivity.
• Designs and implements solutions leveraging AWS services, cloud-native patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and modern engineering practices.
• Troubleshoots complex technical issues, performs root cause analysis, and leads resolution efforts for critical production incidents.
• Communicates with stakeholders regarding project issues and implications. Evaluates the impact of change requests on technologies.
• Establishes and promotes engineering standards for API development, system integration, observability, and software quality.
• Supports adoption of AI and GenAI technologies where appropriate to improve engineering effectiveness and business outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least three years of development experience.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
• Experience designing, building, and delivering enterprise-scale software solutions and applications.
• Minimum of three years of experience as a people leader in a technical capacity.
• Experienced with designing, building, and supporting APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experienced with developing and deploying cloud-native applications and services in AWS.
• Strong proficiency in Java and modern development frameworks.
• Experience with enterprise application architecture, system integration, and scalable software design patterns.
• Experience applying Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with database technologies, performance optimization, application security, and operational best practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python development, automation, or scripting.
• Experience with API management platforms, event-driven architectures, and messaging technologies.
• Experience implementing or integrating AI and GenAI-enabled solutions.
• Experience contributing to engineering strategy, technology roadmaps, and modernization initiatives.
• Experience working in large-scale, highly regulated enterprise environments.
