We are seeking a Technical Documentation Specialist to develop the technical content that enables operators, technicians, and internal teams to safely operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair our systems. This role will work closely with engineering, vehicle operations, manufacturing, and field teams to translate complex hardware and software systems into clear, accurate, and usable documentation.
Responsibilities
- Interview engineers, operators, technicians, and other stakeholders to understand proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the product.
- Develop Operation and Maintenance manuals for vehicle hardware and user-facing software.
- Collaborate with engineers to create work instructions for component assembly, infrastructure maintenance, remote troubleshooting, and field repairs.
- Produce photographs, screenshots, diagrams, CAD renders, and other visual aids for use in technical documentation.
- Issue structured requests for information to technical staff when additional detail or clarification is needed.
- Coordinate consistent use of naming conventions and technical terminology.
- Manage revision control of documents and maintain synchronization with documented engineering changes.
- Participate in product reviews, testing, and field activities to validate documentation against the actual system and user experience.
What Success Looks Like
- In 30 Days: Deliver the first approved standard maintenance procedure for brake bleeding, establishing the workflow for gathering, reviewing, and approving technical documentation.
- In 60 Days: Deliver the first approved User Manual chapter covering basic vehicle movement and command functionality.
- In 90 Days: Deliver a technician-ready annotated schematic of the MK3 brake system that serves as a reference for maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience producing customer-facing documents in a safety-related field.
- Strong attention to detail and copyediting skills.
- Expert user of Microsoft Word or equivalent layout software.
- Familiarity with mechanical repair processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working familiarity with SolidWorks.
- Vector drawing skills.
- Experience with troubleshooting tools for telephone support staff.
Pay
The target hiring range for this position is $90,000 USD - $115,000 USD. Final compensation may vary and will be determined during the interview process.
