About the role

As a Technical Director at TAIT, you will direct and manage the design and implementation of technical systems throughout the lifecycle of a project. You will shepherd technical concepts from design through engineering, fabrication, and delivery, ensuring alignment with the original technical vision and requirements. The role involves close collaboration with project members to secure buy-in on technical solutions and clear communication with vendors, designers, engineers, and clients to meet the creative vision. The Technical Director II is a mid-level position for candidates who have demonstrated excellent technical abilities and successfully delivered multiple small projects. You will independently run multiple small projects and support mid-to-large scale projects with guidance from a senior technical director as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate domain knowledge of all technical aspects of a project, including but not limited to audio, video, lighting, control, rigging, mechanical, and scenic elements.
  • Oversee and ensure the suitability of the designed technical system to meet the client’s vision and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, policies, and procedures in both design and installation.
  • Deliver technical solutions that align with project schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate with assigned partners to iterate designs and ensure correct processes are followed.
  • Provide progress updates to client-facing team members and directly to clients as required.
  • Identify and incorporate site-specific technical requirements into the overall technical design.
  • Liaise and interface with external agencies and partners (e.g., architects, permitting, external production vendors) to ensure technical compliance and information sharing.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience and/or formal training, plus demonstrated performance in the production and delivery of multiple projects.
  • Functional competencies in technical production, which may include staging, rigging, show action, audio, lighting, and video production.
  • Previous experience leading technical project teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of various CAD programs.

Pay

Salary range is $100,000–110,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
