About the role

This opportunity is for a Technical Director Electrical Engineering, Renewables within the national Renewables Business Unit Team. Based in Denver, CO, but remote locations are considered. As part of WSP, you will contribute to the growth of the company’s energy engineering presence in the US market. Key responsibilities include HV project and task delivery, review, oversight, and guidance of delivery teams, and providing situational guidance to PMs and managers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide client engagement, HV matter expertise, and team leadership for due diligence, development, design, and construction phases for HV scope associated with utility and commercial scale solar, wind, and BESS projects.
  • Participate in key conferences and client meetings to support proposal and business development.
  • Lead HV engineering projects, ensuring responsibilities are delivered with quality meeting or exceeding industry standards.
  • Coordinate, review, and approve electrical infrastructure design plans, ensuring compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Oversee project management from inception to completion, managing design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 12+ years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer, preferably at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
  • Professional Electrical Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Highly proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, and processes.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management.
  • Comprehensive experience in working with adjacent disciplines such as civil engineering, P&C, SCADA, and telecom.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to express technical ideas effectively to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Ability to work independently, providing guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design and modeling software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with providing critical reviews for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis, and arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Experience with coordinating and directing subcontractors and others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Highly proficient with HV collector station design.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

Benefits

WSP offers a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings, along with paid sick leave, vacation, parental leave, and time off for personal reasons. Compensation ranges from $139,800 to $233,860, with additional benefits and compensation contingent on specific circumstances and the candidate’s qualifications.
