Technical Director
About the role
The Phoenix office of Gensler is seeking a Technical Director for its Cities Lifestyle Studio. The studio focuses on mixed-use, residential, hospitality, aviation, critical facilities, and other large-scale complex projects. The ideal candidate is a seasoned architect with a strong technical background, experienced in high-profile, design-driven projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants
- Support communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials
- Leverage technical expertise to provide guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges
- Maintain project manuals and specifications
- Oversee multiple projects and teams concurrently
- Lead and track the QA/QC process for multiple projects at various stages of delivery
- Advocate for design quality and execution of all projects
- Ensure design excellence in all aspects of projects across the studio
- Advance the understanding of design resilience as a responsibility for all team members
- Affirm a collaborative and integrated approach towards working with other disciplines in the studio
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
- 15+ years of project experience in an architectural practice
- Licensed or registered architect
- Expertise in Revit, Rhino, Bluebeam Revu, and MS Office
- Thorough knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and green building strategies
- LEED accreditation required – preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with construction contractors and subcontractors
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices
- Portfolios should include at least one project with this particular focus, and candidates should be prepared to discuss this in interviews, especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwell, and/or Net Zero Building certification

Our annual base salary range has been established based on local markets.
