This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will design models, drawings, and configurations of launch vehicle hardware with a focus on mechanical and fluid systems including secondary structures, piping and mechanisms. You will share in the team’s impact on the design of the Stage 1 Tank and subsystems. You will report to the Manager of Mechanical, Materials & Structural Engineering within the Stage 1 Tanks team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and revise released drawings based on engineering change requests from within Blue Origin and outside Suppliers.
  • Balance tasks across different products within the Stage 1 Tanks.
  • Maintain high level Stage 1 Tank assembly including exporting data, fulfilling product structure requests and automating tasks with scripts.
  • Design and maintain product definition by preparing design layouts and drawings, modifying existing designs and resolving design discrepancies.
  • Apply relevant company, industry (design, drafting, parts) techniques to plan, lay-out, and maintain data depicting engineering designs (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets).
  • Implement engineering and manufacturing standards to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule and performance requirements.
  • Support existing standards for product structure organization and naming.
  • Self-prioritize and self-schedule work activity in support of the team.
  • Assist in the development and deployment of reasonable standards for drafting. Act as a drafting standards checker for the team.
  • Work with engineering design and analysis teams to disposition or mitigate emergent issues.
  • Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an A.S. degree, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 5+ years of recent experience designing/drafting aerospace, automotive or equivalent industry structure’s parts, components, or subsystems.
  • Hands on experience with hardware “on the production floor” and/or “in service”.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/Engineer) and Windchill; equivalent software will be considered if all other required qualifications are met.
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software.
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies and associated drawings.
  • Experience in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41).
  • Experience with a PDM (Product Data Management) version control database.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to Suppliers and Manufacturing Facility in FL to support manufacturing as needed.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Skills

  • Designing for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Launch vehicle, spacecraft and/or cryogenic structures experience.
  • Experience leading peer reviews, mentoring, and driving standard work within CAD and PLM processes.
