About the role
The Technical Architect, Integration Development is a senior hands-on architecture and engineering leader responsible for designing, governing, and delivering integration solutions within Brown Advisory enterprise platforms.
Responsibilities
- Lead solution architecture for API, microservice, middleware, event-driven, and data integration models across enterprise systems.
- Design and govern integration patterns for Canoe, Snowflake, Addepar, portfolio management platforms, client advisory tools, reporting platforms, accounting and finance systems, and external vendor ecosystems.
- Drive design, planning, execution, and delivery of enhancements for portfolio management, client platforms, financial operations, advisory tools, and enterprise data workflows.
- Partner with product owners, business stakeholders, engineers, data teams, security, infrastructure, and vendors to translate business strategy into practical technology delivery roadmaps.
- Establish technical standards for API design, service decomposition, data contracts, authentication, authorization, monitoring, logging, resiliency, and lifecycle management.
- Lead an engineering workstream through system design, enhancements, integration delivery, testing, release planning, and production support transition.
- Support and enhance enterprise systems in a highly regulated financial environment, including controls for data quality, privacy, security, auditability, and operational resilience.
- Provide technical leadership for integrations that automate alternative investment document collection, data extraction, data normalization, downstream reporting, and operational workflows.
- Advance Snowflake-centered data integration patterns, including secure data ingestion, transformation, sharing, consumption, governance, and integration with analytics and reporting platforms.
- Manage architecture governance, technical risk assessments, vendor design reviews, proof-of-concept evaluations, implementation sequencing, and change-management activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial, operational, data, security, and regulatory standards, including SOX, AML/KYC, SEC/FINRA expectations where relevant to platform scope.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of enterprise systems, application development, solution architecture, or integration architecture experience supporting financial systems and wealth or asset management platforms.
- 5+ years of experience in wealth management, asset management, investment operations, portfolio management, or adjacent financial services environments.
- 5+ years of technical leadership experience leading architects, engineers, analysts, delivery teams, or cross-functional technical workstreams.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering API integrations, microservices, middleware solutions, data services, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience translating business strategy, operating model needs, and regulatory requirements into technology roadmaps, target architectures, and delivery plans.
- Experience supporting enterprise platforms in a production environment, including release planning, regression testing, incident response, operational support, and vendor coordination.
- Working knowledge of asset management workflows, including portfolio data, client reporting, trading or investment operations, performance analytics, alternative investments, and financial reporting.
- Experience working with data platforms, data warehouses, SQL, data modeling concepts, data quality controls, and system-to-system data flows.
- Excellent communication, documentation, organizational, stakeholder management, and team development skills.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, competing deadlines, and high expectations for quality and reliability.
- Ability to work in Brown Advisory’s Baltimore office three days per week.
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, application development, integration architecture, and secure service design.
- Hands-on experience with Canoe or comparable alternative investment document automation, data extraction, and data management platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including ingestion patterns, data sharing, warehouse design, governance, security, and integration with analytics or reporting tools.
- Knowledge of GL structures, portfolio accounting, investment data domains, financial reporting, reconciliation, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, containerization, serverless patterns, API gateways, service meshes, orchestration, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with REST, GraphQL, message queues, event streaming, ETL/ELT, file-based integrations, webhooks, batch processing, and third-party platform APIs.
- Familiarity with AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, robotic process automation, document intelligence, and intelligent workflow automation.
- Intermediate to advanced SQL knowledge and experience using data analysis to validate integration quality, troubleshoot production issues, and support business decision-making.
- Experience with Agile delivery methods, architecture review boards, change-management processes, SDLC controls, and vendor management.
- Experience designing systems with observability, resiliency, disaster recovery, secure secrets management, role-based access, and data lineage considerations.
