About the role
Serving as a technical architect and consultant for a leading Contact Lens manufacturer, delivering automation and digital transformation solutions in a highly regulated medical device environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 15+ onsite and offshore engineers, acting as technical mentor and primary customer point of contact for automation and controls projects.
- Direct shopfloor-to-MES integration using platforms aligned with ISA‑95 standards to ensure structured data modeling and seamless vertical integration.
- Lead retrofit activities and legacy system migration initiatives, transitioning outdated control platforms and SCADA systems to modern, scalable architectures.
- Support Ignition SCADA solutions for real‑time KPI tracking across production lines, enabling visibility into throughput, yield, equipment utilization and downtime recording for non‑GxP environments.
- Architect MQTT‑based data frameworks to enable lightweight, real‑time communication between PLCs and enterprise systems, enhancing responsiveness and scalability.
- Drive IT/OT convergence initiatives, integrating plant‑level controls with enterprise IT infrastructure to support predictive analytics, centralized monitoring, and remote diagnostics using a tiered architecture.
- Develop data engineering pipelines for high‑frequency time‑series data using Canary and Aveva historians, enabling contextual analytics and performance dashboards for decision support.
- Ensure 21 CFR Part 11 compliance across automation workflows, including electronic records, audit trails, and system access controls for validated environments.
- Initiate OT cyber‑security controls such as DCOM hardening to mitigate legacy vulnerabilities and secure distributed communication using Aveva Sitelink and OPC UA interfaces.
- Manage validation and compliance workflows, including NC/CAPA support, ensuring traceability, audit readiness, and alignment with FDA standards for medical device manufacturing.
- Support RFP development and technical proposal responses, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to define architecture, scope, and delivery models for automation and digital projects.
- Oversee solution and project management across global sites, coordinating engineering, operations, and quality teams to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.
- Lead change request management, authoring and executing requirement, design, test, and operational documentation for approved system modifications.
- Deliver Application Performance Management (APM) frameworks that improved OEE by 10‑15% and reduced downtime due to frequently occurring issues by 30%.
- Provide technical leadership in SCADA/HMI development, historian configuration, and alarm management using platforms such as Wonderware, ArchestrA system platform, DeviceWise workflow, Canary, and Ignition.
