Technical Apprentice - DPW Structures & Grounds

About the Role

Manual and technical work in public works construction, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities involving plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, electrical systems, telecommunications systems, and data systems. Additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction, troubleshooting, and maintenance on plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, telecommunications, and data systems.
• Read and interpret basic plans, schematics, drawings, and specifications.
• Operate hand tools and power equipment.
• Follow oral instructions and perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.
• Observe required safety precautions.

Requirements

• High School diploma required; supplemental coursework in HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical fields preferred.
• Three to five years of experience in public works-related activities or the trades, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous apprenticeship program in the trades desirable.
• Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License.
• OSHA 40 certification desired.

Skills

• Ability to read and interpret technical plans and schematics.
• Proficiency in operating hand tools and power equipment.
• Strong ability to follow oral instructions.
• Physical capability to perform heavy manual labor in varying weather conditions.

Pay

$2,280.07 bi-weekly, plus benefits.
