About the role
The Tech Writer/Editor II develops clear, accurate, and detailed manufacturing work instructions for CNC machining and welding operations. This role serves as the bridge between engineering and manufacturing, translating technical requirements into standardized, easy-to-follow documentation.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive manufacturing work instructions for CNC machining and welding processes.
- Translate engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements into clear, step-by-step instructions for production personnel.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, operators, and other cross-functional teams to observe production processes and validate workflows.
- Spend time on the manufacturing floor gathering information, verifying procedures, and ensuring documentation accurately reflects production methods.
- Create visual aids, diagrams, and callouts using CAD software to enhance work instructions.
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes by reducing ambiguity, minimizing scrap, and implementing error-proofing (poka-yoke) techniques.
- Maintain and update technical documentation to reflect engineering changes and process improvements.
- Support standardized manufacturing practices to ensure consistent production of high-quality parts.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field.
- Equivalent professional experience in a senior machining or welding lead role with a proven history of process improvement and technical writing.
- Experience working in a CNC machining and/or welding manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience authoring work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), or manufacturing process documentation.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams.
- Familiarity with quality control processes and integrating inspection checkpoints into manufacturing documentation.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to simplify complex engineering concepts.
- Experience using CAD software to create technical illustrations and visual work instructions.
- Knowledge of machining and welding tooling and fixturing principles.
- Able to analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for process improvement and error-proofing.
Qualifications
