About the role
NextGen Federal Systems is seeking a Chief Systems Engineer of LVC (Live, Virtual, and Constructive) Mod & Sim Environments. This role will design the architecture that blends physical (Live), simulated (Virtual), and computer-generated (Constructive) elements into seamless, interoperable simulation ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Lead Engineer overseeing the digital engineering service plan for LVC events, identifying priorities, and enabling the Ironwood architecture and mission workflow development to create the end product solution for the program.
- Technical lead for a small team of multi-discipline engineers.
- Provide pre- and post-LVC event support and planning.
- Oversee 3rd party tool integration for the overall Ironwood system.
- Manage LVC events planning, testing, integration, and user enablement for the environment.
- Provide bounded implementation support for C2 and LVC interfaces to connect event tools, simulation tools, operational workflows, and user-facing mission products.
- Participate in the full planning, execution, and after-action assessment of LVC, demonstrating a stable environment during mission events.
- Bridge disparate simulation systems and hardware-in-the-loop to allow real-time data exchange.
- Lead oversight of integration and end-to-end integration checkout.
- Create distributed simulations utilizing common standards, federation management, and distributed time management protocols.
- Ensure models follow DoD/industry protocols like HLA (High Level Architecture), DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation), and apply FOM/SOM guidelines.
- Set the technical direction, drive digital engineering/AI capabilities, and lead development teams.
- Deploy and test containerized units within the cloud.
- Support processing installation hardware.
- Define the bounded digital engineering service plan for tools and event needs, aligning with architecture and workflows.
- Design, define, and package bounded third-party tool adapters for workflows and interfaces.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- 10+ years of systems engineering experience.
- Experience leading teams in the creation and execution of LVC engineering frameworks.
- Typically 8+ years of specialized modeling and simulation experience.
- Develop program roadmap and manage customer expectations.
- Deliver modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) integrating Cameo/SysML, Cameo Simulation Toolkit, ModelCenter, and/or Ansys STK tools and outputs.
- Utilize MBSE tools such as MagicDraw/Cameo and MS&A tools to develop detailed models integrating sub-system models across multiple domains (avionics, RF, EW, communication, aerodynamics, acoustics, EMI, human factors, etc.).
- Lead development of automation capabilities and tying the Digital Thread.
- Work within an Agile Project Management framework and DevSecOps culture.
- Collaborate across stakeholders including customers, teammates, and partners.
Qualifications
- Experience developing conceptual, logical, physical (MBSE), or analytical models (MS&A).
- Ability to develop systems deliverables, including requirements, CONOPs, APIs, IDD/ICDs, SDDs, test plans/procedures.
- Experience in Agile software systems development.
- Experience with one or more programming languages: Java, Python, C++.
- Experience with Ansys STK, Cameo Systems Modeler, MATLAB, Simulink.
- Experience with Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Omniverse, Postman, and Visual Studio.
