Chime is seeking an engineering leader to guide one of the AI & App Experience (AAX) engineering teams. The AAX org is building the next generation of the Chime member experience, including Jade, our AI-powered financial assistant. Jade helps millions of members manage spending, track subscriptions, and reach financial goals through natural, reliable, and trustworthy conversations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a squad of 4-5 engineers: hiring, 1:1s, career coaching, and performance management
- Own end-to-end delivery for your squad, from sprint planning and commitments to service SLAs and operational health
- Write and ship production code alongside your team, including authoring pull requests
- Set the squad's technical direction, architecture, and quality bar, either through a tech lead or by taking the role yourself
- Use AI coding agents and tooling to increase leverage for yourself and your squad, establishing durable practices
- Guide the design and delivery of LLM-powered capabilities, including agent experiences, evals, guardrails, and observability to ensure reliability at scale
- Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk on scope, prioritization, and quarterly planning, surfacing technical dependencies early
- Act as the squad's cross-functional point of contact for technical capabilities and dependency coordination
- Identify technical debt and advocate for sustainable engineering while maintaining quality, performance, and operational health
- Build growth paths for engineers toward higher IC levels or future TLM roles
- Contribute to broader AAX and Chime engineering initiatives as part of the leadership team
Requirements
- 2+ years in people management responsibilities
- Current, hands-on coding ability with a desire to continue writing code
- Track record of using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) to accelerate delivery and drive team adoption
- AI-native fluency: experience building with LLMs and fostering adoption across your team
- Familiarity with shipping LLM-powered products, including agents, evals, prompt strategies, guardrails, and observability
- Experience coaching team members on project execution, skill development, and career progression
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, partnering with Product, Design, Data Science, and other stakeholders
- Ability to motivate teams through aggressive schedules and goals while fostering a thriving culture
- Enjoyment of deep technical learning and problem-solving
- Experience with Python, Ruby, React Native, distributed systems, AWS services (data/compute), and service-oriented architectures

Pay
Base salary range: $199,000–$275,000, with adjustments based on location, skills, and experience. Full-time employees are also eligible for bonuses, competitive equity, and benefits.
