Tech I - Shop
About the Role
Total Safety is the world's premier provider of integrated safety and compliance services and products, including gas detection, respiratory protection, safety training, fire protection, compliance and inspection, industrial hygiene, onsite emergency medical treatment/paramedics, communications systems, engineered systems design, and materials management.
As a Shop Tech, you will maintain shop machinery and equipment in excellent working order, keep the facility clean and organized, and ensure compliance with safety standards. You will assist in maintaining the flow of work at the shop, organize materials and finished goods, and perform routine maintenance for the facility and grounds.
Responsibilities
- Safety: Maintain a safe work environment by wearing required PPE, observing all safety rules and regulations, and following instructions.
- Mechanical:
- Assist in mechanical maintenance and repair as requested.
- Service and clean shop equipment to maintain usability.
- Replace worn parts as necessary.
- Use lock-out/tag-out procedures for non-working equipment.
- Refurbish and repair rental equipment to maintain excellent working condition.
- Fabrication:
- Assist Welder/Fabricator Specialists with welding as requested.
- Participate in pipe and plate fabrication, material preparation, equipment operation, and painting.
- Maintenance:
- Clean and organize the shop daily.
- Move materials, equipment, boxes, and furniture as requested.
- Replace light bulbs, air filters, and other items as needed.
- Keep eye wash stations clean and medicine cabinets stocked.
- Perform required inspections for fire extinguishers and other safety equipment.
- Maintain up-to-date MSDS books in collaboration with the Safety team.
- Recommend necessary expenditures and upgrades to optimize shop functionality.
- Yard:
- Keep the yard organized to maximize space efficiency.
- Assist in the cost-effective disposal of outdated equipment, materials, and scrap.
- Dispose of non-usable parts and materials according to Company protocols.
- Assist in recycling and waste disposal as requested.
- Other Duties:
- Oversee building and grounds maintenance.
- Assist in records management and retrieval as requested.
- Move furniture and retrieve supplies as necessary.
- Perform general building maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs.
- Problem Resolution: Handle routine problems and schedule interruptions throughout the day.
- Performance:
- Perform all assigned duties in accordance with instructions.
- Obey Company rules and regulations.
- Work effectively with a wide variety of people daily.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Equivalent work experience in a shop environment will be considered.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities.
Working Environment
Work is typically performed in the shop, which is a hazardous environment. Safety considerations include but are not limited to:
- Electrical, heat, and fire hazards.
- Mechanical hazards, radiation, fumes, and deposits.
- Noise and equipment operation.
- Heavy materials moving and working in close quarters.
- Working at great heights and driving hazards.
The employee will be required to attend several classes and seminars.
