Team Leader - Optometric Tech - Full time - Southfield
GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting the doctor with providing thorough comprehensive visual exams, medical exams, office visits, in-office minor medical procedures, and contact lens follow-ups by performing preliminary testing, electronic medical record entries, contact lens classes, support duties, and post exam follow-up. Responsible for being a support to the management team with training the team and following the standardized training programs in a timely manner, creating and maintaining the department team schedule, managing the patient schedule, communicating goals to the team, conducting and participating in department meetings. Acts as a role model in providing excellent patient care by exceeding patient’s expectations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- In addition to the clinical skills required for the Optometric Tech Level 1, must have the ability to take an active role in any attempt to constantly and measurably meet and/or exceed corporate goals.
- Counsels and trains all Optometric Assistants.
- Ensures team leverages the strengths and limitations of their individual employees when creating work assignments.
- Oversees patient flow and meets with Optometrists.
- Answer and address customer concerns and questions. Directs customers to the appropriate source when unable to address customer’s questions. Handle multiple customers effectively with tact and a sense of urgency.
- Attends and conducts department and office meetings to promote and build effective teams to ensure everyone is committed to corporate goals.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining the department schedule.
- Works closely with the management team and Director of Clinical Services to assure patient care is exceeded and all training is being conducted in a proficient and timely manner for the department.
- Demonstrate effective organization skills. The ability to efficiently organize, prioritize, and maintain daily activities and multiple tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Requires High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Requires at least six months experience in the Optometric Tech position.
- Completion of all required training courses, including the HFHS Leadership Charge Training program.
- The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing; the ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; the ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand; and the ability to use basic math skills.
- Retail or Hospitality experience preferred
- American Board of Opticianry Certification (ABOC) and or National Contact Lens Examiners Certification (NCLE) preferred
- Prior management experience preferred
- Must have the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds
- Requires the leadership skills and drive to achieve office goals and outcomes
- Must be able to motivate and direct a team of professionals
- Requires completion of all training courses as directed by Henry Ford OptimEyes, including completing the HFHS Leadership Charge training program.
- Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS’ Customer Service Policy
- Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a retail optical environment. Requires evening and weekend hours.
