Team Lead Resident Maintenance Technician

About the role
As a Resident Maintenance Technician Team Lead, you will provide industrial electrical/mechanical expertise and work within a team to maximize equipment utilization and efficiency. This role focuses on applying knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated equipment, including 480vac, 240vac, 120vac, 48vdc, 24vdc, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred). You will collaborate with the Maintenance Shift Supervisor, Resident Site Supervisor, and/or Site Maintenance Manager, and a team of experienced engineers to deliver first-class maintenance support for automated storage, retrieval, and picking systems at customer locations.
This position may require responding to emergency calls and occasional weekend work, structured to allow forward planning. You will be safety-conscious, eager to succeed, and own problems through to resolution.
Responsibilities
- Rectify electro-mechanical faults, resolve PLC-related issues, and provide expert knowledge on assigned systems.
- Respond to emergency calls at customer sites while maintaining safety in all activities.
- Track, record, and resolve problems to successful completion.
- Provide first-class maintenance support in conjunction with customer on-site maintenance teams, ensuring a "first-time right" policy.
- Deliver emergency breakdown and specialized maintenance support, including setup and calibration of precision automation equipment.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and operational agents to enable top-tier service.
- Train customer maintenance teams as required.
- Maintain service quality through clear communication with customers and well-documented reports.
- Execute site quality, safety, and statutory procedures.
- Participate in regular meetings with supervisors to discuss activities and progress.
- Provide specialized maintenance support for installed systems and log spare parts usage appropriately.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Complete mechanical strip-down/re-assembly, basic field wiring, machine calibration, and system testing as needed.
- Work within timeframes to complete reactive repairs and interact professionally with on-site management.
- Demonstrate hands-on ownership of issues to achieve timely resolution.
- Interpret electrical circuit diagrams and perform risk assessments with appropriate health & safety considerations.
- Read assembly drawings, operate hand tools, and follow setup instructions and checklists.
- Submit accurate and legible time sheets and documents biweekly with correct job numbers.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- 3–8 years of progressive experience as a Maintenance Repairman, Maintenance Electrician, Machine Repairman, or Industrial Maintenance Engineer.
- Verifiable experience repairing machinery systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/German) preferred but not required.
- Extensive experience in equipment maintenance, modifications, and design.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and a process-oriented mentality.
- Theoretical and operational experience in repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment, and control systems.
- Experience with network equipment interfaces is a plus.
- Hands-on, team-oriented approach with a commitment to improvement processes.
- Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies.
