Team Lead Resident Maintenance Technician

About the role

As a Resident Maintenance Technician Team Lead, you will provide industrial electrical/mechanical expertise and work within a team to maximize equipment utilization and efficiency. This role focuses on applying knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated equipment, including 480vac, 240vac, 120vac, 48vdc, 24vdc, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred). You will collaborate with the Maintenance Shift Supervisor, Resident Site Supervisor, and/or Site Maintenance Manager, and support automated storage, retrieval, and picking systems at customer locations.

Responsibilities

• Rectify electro-mechanical faults, resolve PLC-related issues, and provide expert knowledge to assist the customer site in your assigned area.
• Respond to emergency calls at customer sites while maintaining safety in all activities.
• Track, record, and resolve problems to successful completion.
• Provide first-class maintenance support in conjunction with the customer’s on-site maintenance department, ensuring a first-time-right policy.
• Deliver emergency breakdown and specialized maintenance support, including setup and calibration of precision automation equipment.
• Build strong working relationships with customers and operational agents to enable first-class service.
• Train the customer’s maintenance team as required.
• Maintain service quality through clear communication with customers and well-documented reports.
• Execute site quality, safety, and statutory procedures.
• Participate in regular meetings with maintenance leadership to discuss activities and progress.
• Provide specialized maintenance support for the customer’s installed system.
• Log spare parts usage promptly with the customer and KNAPP spare parts team or CMMS.
• Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment supplied.
• Submit accurate and legible time sheets and documents biweekly with correct job numbers.
• Perform mechanical strip-down/re-assembly, basic field wiring, machine calibration, and system testing as needed.
• Complete reactive repairs within set timeframes.
• Interact professionally with on-site management, keeping them informed of repair and maintenance progress.
• Demonstrate hands-on ownership of issues to achieve timely resolution.
• Interpret electrical circuit diagrams and perform risk assessments.
• Apply mechanical aptitude, including reading assembly drawings.
• Operate hand tools and disassemble/assemble parts onto equipment following setup instructions, drawings, and checklists.
• Exhibit attention to detail, exceptional follow-up skills, and excellent communication for internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 3–8 years of progressive experience as a Maintenance Repairman, Maintenance Electrician, Machine Repairman, or Industrial Maintenance Engineer.
• Verifiable experience repairing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic machinery systems.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/German) preferred but not required.
• Extensive experience in equipment maintenance, modifications, and design preferred.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and process-oriented mentality.
• Theoretical and operational experience in repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment, and control systems.
• Experience with network equipment interfaces is a plus.
• Hands-on, team-oriented approach with a commitment to improvement processes.
• Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
