About the role

The Software Development Team Lead will be part of an agile development team, building and working on our Mapping & Staking product and our cloud platform. This team is responsible for managing GIS data used throughout our enterprise suite of applications, including web and desktop applications. The application allows NISC Members to enter and maintain mapping data, find relationships, identify trends, and enable multiple workstations to view enterprise utility or telecommunication maps (e.g., power lines or fiber internet cables). The Team Lead ensures comprehensive contract and integration test coverage, provides technical and team leadership through mentoring, coaching, and hands-on development.

Responsibilities

  • Takes ownership for development efforts and productivity of the engineering team.
  • Analyze and resolve technical issues.
  • Coach direct reports and ensure quality standards and best practices for an effective SDLC.
  • Supply progress reports to management.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments and divisions.
  • Commit and test production code.
  • Leverage generative AI tools and technologies to enhance productivity, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Identify and act upon areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  • Drive application and process improvement.
  • Assess individual and team performance, set goals and objectives.
  • Participate in the selection and hiring of new employees.
  • Assist Department Manager with establishing action plans for key strategic projects and technical direction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in software development, software requirements, or other applicable technical areas.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with GIS, ESRI, or ArcGIS preferred.
  • Experience with Java, C#, Angular, JavaScript, or Spring Boot.
  • Experience with cloud technologies/architectures, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket, Bamboo, or Rundeck.
  • Strong delegation, prioritization, coaching, and feedback delivery skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage day-to-day operations of a high-volume team.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and committed to NISC's Statement of Shared Values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred).

Schedule

Hybrid from one of our office locations: Atlanta, GA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Lake Saint Louis, MO; or Mandan, ND. Minimum of 3 days per week in-office, with Tuesday and Wednesday required. The third required day is flexible based on candidate and supervisor agreement.
