Team Lead - 2nd Shift

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor and Operations Manager, the Team Lead is responsible for directing and coordinating daily production operations to ensure delivery of quality products which meet and exceed customer expectations. This position is responsible for assisting in leadership of the shift/area, providing guidance to the team to ensure continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, and coordinating efforts amongst other shifts.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Management and Company.
  • Ensure employees understand safety, quality, delivery, and productivity and prioritize them in the same order.
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment and ensure safety standards are an indispensable corollary to productivity goals and that safety is our #1 priority.
  • Help create and maintain a positive team spirit. Be a role model; lead by example.
  • Provide adequate performance feedback to maximize employee performance.
  • Plan and organize resources and materials to accomplish daily work objectives.
  • Communicate professionally with all individuals and ensure a smooth transition between shifts.
  • Motivate and train employees toward higher efficiency and skill levels.
  • Work cooperatively with other FXI team members on continuous improvement efforts and facilitate problem solving between and within the shift, while maintaining operating budgets.
  • Document production activity.
  • Interview candidates for personnel on respective shift.
  • Keep employees informed of the current state of our business and provide information on future planning.
  • Enforce discipline in plant policies, guidelines, and systems.
  • Maintain proper safety conditions, comply with all standard equipment safety practices, and protect company assets.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
  • Ensure manufacturing job operations maintain or improve product quality. Stop and correct job operation if product quality is affected negatively.
  • Resolve confrontation/conflicts as they occur while keeping management and HR informed at all times.
  • Communicate raw material issues and other inventory level needs.
  • Lead team meetings, pre-shift meetings, safety talks, and productivity/yield meetings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the processing of sample requests with Production, Quality, Scheduling, and Customer Service.
  • Review and submit punch detail, overtime approvals, payroll adjustments, and any other matters affecting the employee’s pay.
  • Direct the set-up, operation, and control any equipment in assigned department.
  • Ensure all employees in your assigned area are meeting all safety participation and engagement requirements.
  • Distribute production orders to operators in a timely manner.
  • Analyze and communicate with Pourline all cutting line data, communicating unusual measurements or trends.
  • Ensure adherence to all plant QCP’s, SOP’s, and SWP’s.
  • Must participate and be a leader in safety activities; must be first-aid trained.
  • Lead and support 5S and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain and ensure all required training is done for all assigned employees, including contract employees.
  • Must be flexible to work hours and/or assignments across various operating shifts to support the overall needs of the business.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this task successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Demonstrated ability to motivate others through example, understanding, and persuasion. Requires experience with or knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes. Demonstrated manufacturing leadership and/or supervisory experience.
  • Languages: Ability to read and comprehend (in English) simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Documents may include: Material Safety Data Sheets, work orders, work instructions, manuals, policies and procedures, etc.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Technical Skills: Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a positive customer service attitude. Able to multi-task. Required working knowledge of Microsoft windows programs (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint). SAP experience preferred. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production related problems. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to solve problems in a practical manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The Associate must frequently lift/carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
