About the role
As Lead Data Scientist, you will help define and drive the technical strategy for high-impact machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and large language model (LLM) initiatives across GNS. You’ll lead teams in developing, deploying, and governing production-grade AI systems that power LexisNexis products globally delivering measurable impact for hundreds of thousands of users. You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data platform partners to translate complex business challenges into scalable AI solutions, while fostering a culture of innovation, responsible AI, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Team & Technical Leadership
- Lead a team of (5-8) data scientists; provide mentorship, technical guidance, and professional development.
- Serve as a player-coach, contributing hands-on to modeling and solution design while guiding others to deliver complex AI projects.
- As a technical lead, support Senior Data Scientists in scoping and managing GNS data science initiatives aligned with platform and business strategy.
- Modeling & Solution Delivery
- Collaborate with Senior Data Scientists and engineering teams to design, build, and deploy robust ML and LLM-based solutions for search, summarization, recommendations, and workflow automation.
- Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end ML pipelines, from data ingestion and feature engineering to deployment and ongoing monitoring.
- Establish and enforce technical standards in modeling, experimentation, reproducibility, and MLOps.
- Partner with Data Science project leads to ensure seamless model integration into production environments, maintaining scalability, quality, and observability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product managers, data engineers, system architects, and domain experts to translate business goals into actionable data science deliverables.
- Communicate technical findings, trade-offs, and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with across wider group of data science and platform teams to share best practices, reusable components, and frameworks that accelerate innovation across LexisNexis.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or data engineering (NLP/LLM experience strongly preferred). 2+ years of experience leading or mentoring data scientists or engineers, with a proven record of successful project delivery. 2+ years of hands-on experience with NLP tools and methods.
- Technical Skills: Advanced programming and modeling proficiency in Python and ML frameworks. Strong background in developing, tuning and deploying NLP and LLM applications. Experience building scalable ML pipelines and moving solutions from research to production environments. Familiarity with cloud and containerized environments such as AWS, GCP, Azure, and Docker. Working knowledge of model monitoring and observability tools.
- Soft Skills & Leadership: Excellent stakeholder management, collaboration, and communication skills. Proven ability to bridge the gap between technical concepts and business outcomes. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a strategic, analytical mindset.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Advanced degree (master’s or Ph.D.) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with search, summarization, document understanding, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems.
- Knowledge of responsible AI frameworks, model governance, and fairness evaluation.
- Contributions to open-source ML/AI libraries.
