Description
The English Learner Program Lead provides support with the district's integrated English Learner program and continuous improvement efforts, including EL program coordination, EL coaching, EL family engagement, EL program evaluations, and continuous improvement efforts. Maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with an endorsement in English as a Second Language- NS or Bilingual YA-YT.
- Must submit to pass a criminal background check.
- Experience providing ESL support services to EL students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the EL Director to support the implementation and continuous improvement of the district's EL program.
- Ensure consistency in EL programming, practices, and expectations across district buildings.
- Serve as a resource and point of contact for district staff regarding EL programming and student support.
- Assist with communication and coordination between district EL teachers, Bilingual Family Liaisons, building administrators, and district leadership.
- Coordinate instructional materials, resources, and professional learning needs that support EL students.
- Support the implementation and accurate documentation of district EL initiatives.
- Collaborate with the EL Director to identify professional learning needs based on student data, staff feedback, and program requirements.
- Plan and provide professional development for teachers, support staff, and administrators related to serving English Learners.
- Develop and share practical strategies that staff can implement in classrooms to support language development, academic achievement, and student engagement by facilitating EL coaching cycles with classroom teachers.
- Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of district EL Family Events designed to build relationships, provide resources, and increase family engagement.
- Collaborate with Bilingual Family Liaisons to identify and address the needs of EL families.
- Support communication and outreach efforts that promote meaningful family participation in the educational process.
- Assist in developing consistent EL instructional practices and family communication strategies across the district.
- Attend relevant ISD EL meetings, training, and professional learning opportunities as a district representative.
- Bring relevant information, resources, and updates from ISD and state EL conferences back to the district EL team and appropriate staff.
- Represent Fitzgerald Public Schools professionally in regional EL programming and professional learning opportunities.
- Work closely with the EL Director to support compliance with all applicable state and federal EL requirements, guidelines, and expectations.
- Assist with gathering information, documentation, and evidence needed for state and federal reporting, monitoring, and program evaluation.
- Stay informed regarding changes to EL laws, regulations, guidance, and best practices and assist in communicating relevant updates to staff.
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as allowable by the funding source.
