Summary Of Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements laboratory policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized working environment, including facilities and machines.
  • Maintains tool and supplies inventory, maintains lab course consumables.
  • Demonstrates safe and proper use of equipment and machinery to students.
  • Maintains service logs where appropriate.
  • Works with the CET IT staff to ensure that the department and engineering lab computers and software are kept up to date and functioning.
  • Ensures that labs are accessible to students outside of class on a schedule approved by the department chair.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field, and two years of experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge:
    • Use and maintenance of automated manufacturing facilities and equipment.
    • Ordering and inventory control of supplies, equipment, and/or services.
    • Laboratory equipment protocols and procedures.
    • Troubleshooting procedures.
    • Electronics, sensors, and control systems.
    • Vibrational systems.
    • Fluid mechanics and thermal sciences applications.
    • Hydraulics or hydrology, pumps, weirs, and flumes.
    • Materials, materials processing, and manufacturing.
    • Construction, building codes, ASTM, or AASHTO standards.
  • Skills:
    • Computer-aided design.
    • Installation of software.
    • Use of automated manufacturing industry tools and equipment (electronic and pneumatic actuators, electronic sensors, PLC circuits, industrial networks, and OSHA regulations).
    • Hand and power tools and equipment (CNC, lathe, circular/table/rift saws, band saws, sanders, grinders, and welders).
  • Abilities:
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Analyze and solve problems.
    • Utilize, calibrate, configure, and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
    • Provide technical guidance and training to end users.
    • Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
    • Investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
    • Foster a cooperative work environment.
    • Lift 55 lbs. repeatedly.
