Teaching Faculty – Medical Laboratory Assistant

This is a temporary, full-time non-bargaining faculty position with a standard contract length of 228 days. Other contract lengths may be available depending on department needs. Assigned campus locations may vary due to enrollment.

Responsibilities

• Teach and support student learning in Medical Laboratory Technology classes as assigned.
• Develop curriculum and incorporate teaching strategies relevant to the academic discipline to foster student learning, success, and retention.
• Engage students and support their learning success in and beyond the classroom.
• Maintain required office hours to provide assistance to students, both individually and in small groups.
• Counsel students on academic progress and work with other faculty to improve curriculum and promote student success.
• Comply with College policies and procedures, including participating in department and college activities, committees, and meetings.
• Participate in day, evening, and weekend program staffing as required.
• Contribute to a collegial and collaborative work environment and become actively involved with the diverse community the College serves.
• Work with other College departments to engage community partners that support the College Mission and Vision.
• Perform site and position-specific responsibilities, such as ordering supplies, participating in student activities, and attending graduation.
• Maintain current licensure and knowledge of discipline and teaching methods.
• Provide leadership for the administration, planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, NAACLS accreditation standards, state regulations, and professional certification requirements.
• Coordinate accreditation and program assessment, including reports, documentation, outcomes data, and continuous quality improvement.
• Develop course schedules and coordinate program offerings to support student progression and timely completion.
• Coordinate clinical education, including affiliation agreements, clinical placements, and communication with clinical sites.
• Build and maintain partnerships with clinical affiliates, advisory committee members, employers, and professional organizations.
• Facilitate advisory committee activities and implement recommendations to enhance program quality and workforce relevance.
• Lead recruitment, outreach, marketing, admissions support, and community engagement to promote enrollment and program visibility.
• Oversee program resources, including laboratories, equipment, supplies, instructional technology, facilities, and budget recommendations.
• Maintain program records and prepare reports related to enrollment, student outcomes, accreditation, clinical education, and program effectiveness.
• Collaborate with college leadership, faculty, and staff on strategic planning, program growth, workforce initiatives, and overall program success.
• Support faculty and clinical instructors through orientation, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Option 1: Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related Health/Science field, preferred AND MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent AND 3 years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing testing or teaching/administration AND Applicable Valid Florida state license(s).
• Option 2: Master’s degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences or closely related discipline with 18 graduate hours in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science AND MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent AND 5 years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing testing in discipline being taught AND Applicable Valid Florida state license(s).
• Option 3: Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or closely related Biological Science field AND Current MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent AND 5 years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing testing in discipline being taught AND Active Florida Clinical Laboratory License, as applicable.

• Hold a generalist certification by ASCP Board of Certification or by ASCPi Board of Certification.
• Teaching experience.
