About the role

Tidewater Community College seeks a 12-month Instructor to serve as the Program Director for the Surgical Technology Program. This position adheres to accreditation requirements set by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and facilitating learning in a classroom or online environment.
  • Designing and implementing assessment strategies to measure student achievement of course learning outcomes.
  • Engaging students in various activities to support the curriculum and co-curriculum.
  • Providing feedback to students on their progress and maintaining timely communication.
  • Maintaining currency in the assigned teaching discipline and methods of teaching.
  • Participating in scholarly and creative activities relevant to the teaching discipline.
  • Fulfilling institutional responsibilities such as participating in the college’s development and evaluation plan for full-time teaching faculty, publishing, holding office hours, serving as an academic advisor, and attending required meetings.
  • Assisting in accreditation support and outcomes assessment, including meeting CAAHEP and ARC/STSA standards and maintaining accreditation status.
  • Ensuring program effectiveness and student learning outcomes through leadership, program planning, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement activities.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a health profession discipline.
  • An associate degree in surgical technology.
  • A professional credential as required by the surgical technology discipline, such as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • Minimum four years of professional surgical technology experience.
  • Minimum two years of teaching or educational experience in a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Demonstrated professional competencies within the surgical technology discipline, including curriculum oversight, program evaluation, accreditation compliance, and leadership.

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in surgical technology and a bachelor’s degree in a health profession discipline.
  • Professional credential as required by the surgical technology discipline, such as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • Minimum four years of professional surgical technology experience.
  • Minimum two years of teaching or educational experience in a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Demonstrated professional competencies within the surgical technology discipline, including curriculum oversight, program evaluation, accreditation compliance, and leadership.

SkillsAbility to use consistent, timely formative and summative assessment measures to enhance student learning.
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn and utilize, proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
  • Willingness to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately, including online delivery, hybrid course options, content software, web-enhancements, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally (in group and one-on-one settings) orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to ensure program effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and compliance with professional and accreditation standards.

    Pay

    $70,541 - $136,789, commensurate with qualifications.
