Florida State University Panama City, located 100 miles west of Tallahassee on North St. Andrews Bay, offers a personalized academic experience with 20 bachelor's programs, 9 master's programs, and 1 doctoral program. The campus recently opened a new residential housing complex for undergraduate and graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a core faculty member in the Biomedical Sciences program.
  • Teach undergraduate Chemistry courses, including:
    • Lower-level courses in the undergraduate studies curriculum.
    • Upper-level courses in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and/or other chemistry courses in the biomedical degree curriculum.
  • Provide mentorship, advising, and support to students.
  • Engage in course and curriculum development activities, including laboratory management.
  • Promote the Biomedical Sciences program and collaborate with local health-related initiatives to enhance student experiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at FSU Tallahassee in the College of Medicine and Chemistry departments for course coordination and committee service.
  • Serve as an engaged faculty member for the FSU Panama City campus.
  • While research is not a heavy requirement, it is encouraged, particularly work incorporating undergraduate students in chemistry and biomedical sciences.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Chemistry or a related field from an accredited institution (required).
  • Candidates who are ABD (all but dissertation) or hold a Master’s Degree in Chemistry with a different related doctoral degree (e.g., MD, PharmD, DPH, or PhD) will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous university teaching experience, with the ability to translate Chemistry concepts to health-related settings.
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses, such as Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and other upper-division electives.
  • Strong record of teaching, excellent communication skills, and a passion for mentoring students interested in health-related career tracks.

This position is part of the inaugural faculty team for FSU Panama City’s new Biomedical Sciences/Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences undergraduate degree program, which prepares students for pre-health and pre-medical graduate programs. The program offers a Clinical Professions major with a rigorous science curriculum and embedded experiential learning.
