Teaching Assistant
About the Role
Strive Charter School is hiring full-time Teaching Assistants who have experience caring for children and want a steady, meaningful job in a school. The position begins on August 10. You do not need a college degree—what matters most is that you know how to take care of young children: keeping them safe and helping them stay focused and respectful.
Teaching Assistants support teachers during the school day and oversee classrooms afterschool and on weekends for our optional programs. Our school follows a progressive educational philosophy and is located in the South Bronx, two blocks from the Cypress Avenue stop on the #6 train.
Responsibilities
- Help teachers during lessons
- Work with small groups of students
- Keep students focused
- Supervise lunch, activities, and learning periods
- Support classroom routines and organization
- Maintain a calm and safe environment
- Build positive relationships with students
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with children (e.g., pre-k, daycare, babysitting, camps, after-school programs, or similar roles)
- Reliability and punctuality
- Ability to stay calm and patient with kids
- Comfort giving clear directions and setting limits
- Preference for active, busy work environments
- Interest in steady, full-time employment
Pay
$60,000 per year (including overtime).
Schedule
50 hours per week, year-round, with 5 weeks of paid time off. Full-time position with consistent hours.
