Teaching Assistant

About the role

Join AoPS Academy as a Math Teaching Assistant and support advanced student learning in an engaging, collaborative classroom environment. You will assist instructors with curriculum, work one‑on‑one with students, help manage the classroom, grade assignments, and foster critical thinking and academic curiosity. This is an in‑person position at our Mountain View, California campus; candidates must be located in Mountain View or the surrounding area and able to commute to the site.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors with company-created curriculum and materials, helping advanced students grasp complex concepts.
• Work one-on-one with students during class activities and provide additional help when needed.
• Help maintain an organized learning environment and assist in managing up to 16 students.
• Assist with grading and providing constructive feedback on student work.
• Connect with students and staff members to encourage their learning journey and academic growth.
• Help create an environment that promotes critical thinking and academic curiosity.

Requirements

• Must be 16 years old or older.
• Possess strong math skills with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts.
• Experience with or interest in working with younger students strongly preferred.
• Exceptional written and spoken communication.
• Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions.
• Detail-oriented and organized.
• Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is a plus (not required).
• Prior teaching experience or education coursework is not required.

Pay

Hourly rate: $20.00 – $20.63 per hour.

Schedule

AoPS Academy is an after‑school program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after‑school hours (as early as 4 p.m.) and/or on weekends. The position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class; each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes. The role covers a variety of Math and Language Arts classes.
