Under the direction of the school principal, supports the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church; does not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with those teachings.
  • Works collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, demonstrating lived Gospel values by personal example and active participation in a faith community.
  • Maintains physical and informational security, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
  • Adheres to all diocesan and school policies and regulations while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
  • Prepares lesson plans designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives adopted by the school.
  • Integrates Catholic religious curriculum as articulated by the school.
  • Participates in and helps plan school religious and service-related activities to build the school’s faith community.
  • Demonstrates and communicates knowledge and competency of academic and religious curriculum; organizes learning materials to maximize time and engage students.
  • Establishes a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image.
  • Sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively in accordance with school policy.
  • Participates in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Works flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school-related events.

Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred (required for some positions; consult with the school principal).
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must maintain Professional Educator certification in the State of Florida.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within two years Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification.
  • Ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in speech, action, and instruction.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
  • Ability to assess needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all served.

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.
  • Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, computation of rate, ratio, percent, and interpretation of bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • May require some evening and weekend hours.
