About the role

This position involves planning and implementing an instructional program in Career Technology Education (CTE) and providing related educational services in a skills-based learning environment. The role includes managing student behavior, assessing and evaluating student achievement, and modifying instructional activities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required.
  • Carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities.
  • Provides instructional and leadership services preparing students with the related academic, critical thinking, computer technology, workplace readiness and technical skills essential to pursuing careers in health occupations, including CPR/First Aid.
  • Prepares students to sit for and successfully pass the aligned industry certification exam including the Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Serves as a CTE classroom teacher in a high school (grades 9 through 12).
  • Supervises classroom activities to include laboratory experiences.
  • Works with staff and post-secondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways that prepare students for certification, internships, externships, apprenticeships, licensure, employment, community college or university degree programs.

Requirements

Required: Possession of a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license, issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing, minimally required. Candidates will be required to complete eligibility requirements for licensure in Professional and Technical Education by the Maryland State Department of Education. Two years nursing experience, at least one year of which was in caring for the elderly or chronically ill in the past 5 years. Completion a course with a minimum of 16 hours of instruction in the principles of adult education. (such as Train the Trainer); or have a minimum of two years teaching experience. Experience in one or more of the major areas of nursing including Geriatric Nursing.

Qualifications

  • Teaching experience preferred (experience teaching Advanced Placement courses recommended).
  • Possession of a Registered Nursing (RN) license, issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing, preferred.
  • Possession of an Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree or higher in Nursing preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Authorized Healthcare Provider Certification preferred.
  • CNA/GNA Certification preferred.
