TEACHER - SPED

Responsibilities

The SPED Teacher is responsible for conducting an educational assessment and developing and implementing an individualized tutorial plan based on the individuals learning needs and abilities.

Essential Functions

• Create a safe environment for clients, provide direct supervision of clients, empower clients, and teach new tools for coping to clients.
• Participate as an integral member of the treatment team and in developing the continuing care plan with regard to educational placement upon discharge.
• Teach smaller classes of between 8-15 students with additional staff support, gain experience with behavior management techniques, implement Differentiated Learning/Instruction, provide direct and indirect instructional support, instruct students in core academic subjects, modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities, establish and enforce rules for behavior, and maintain accurate and complete student records.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings, assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom and tiered interventions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education. Master's Degree preferred.
• Prior experience working with children and adolescents with special educational needs.
• TN SPED Licensure required.
• TN Elementary, Secondary Education current Licensure.
• Prior knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development; limit setting and crisis and behavior management.
