Teacher- Special Education- RISE PK-5

About the role

The RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Instruction) program at Holyoke Public Schools is designed to provide specialized instruction for elementary students with significant cognitive disabilities. The position requires a highly qualified full-time teacher to lead a self-contained classroom.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction aligned with state standards and IEP goals
• Implement structured teaching methods to enhance academic achievement
• Teach daily living skills and social development to students
• Collaborate with other special education teachers, general education teachers, and related service providers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed
• Participate in professional development opportunities to improve instructional practices

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in special education or a related field
• A valid Massachusetts teaching license with a special education endorsement
• At least two years of teaching experience in a special education setting
• Experience working with students with significant cognitive disabilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team

Qualifications

• Knowledge of evidence-based practices for teaching students with significant cognitive disabilities
• Experience using structured teaching methods and curriculum adaptations
• Ability to adapt lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners
• Proficiency in using assistive technology and adaptive equipment

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The RISE Elementary Teacher works a standard school schedule, typically 180 days per year, with additional hours during the summer for professional development and planning.
