Teacher: Special Education Infant & Toddler Program (ITP)

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Provides direct instruction to children with disabilities and conducts educational assessments.
• Assists in the planning and development of student Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) as a member of the school IFSP team.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and group instruction to meet the needs of each student as stated on the IFSP.
• Communicates with parents through conferences, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and other means to discuss child’s progress and the IFSP.
• Facilitates the implementation of special education services in the natural environments.
• Affirms the progress of students on a regular basis utilizing tests, measurements and observation skills and/or modified-adapted assessment devices.
• Assists in organizing and implementing a continuum of appropriate service delivery options for children with disabilities.
• Provides progress reports as required.
• Provides consultation and support to general education teachers regarding implementation of IFSPs, reasonable modification, etc.
• Consults and confers regularly with colleagues regarding the educational, social, physical or emotional goals and objectives of students.
• Maintains accurate, complete and correct records, case files, etc. as required by program regulations, Board policies and federal, state and local laws.
• Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings. Provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods of instruction for children with disabilities.
• Improves his/her own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, in-service activities conferences and/or advanced coursework at universities, colleges, institutions of higher education.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of current trends, research in field of specialization and methodology in the field of special education; Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives with special emphasis on teaching techniques; Knowledge of and proficiency in technical areas of instruction; Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively; Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with professional colleagues, staff, students and parents; Demonstrated ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners; Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations; Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
• Licenses and Certifications: Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
