TEACHER - SPECIAL EDUCATION

About the role

Under the general supervision of the Director of Education, this position provides direct instruction and educational services to hospitalized children and adolescents. The goal is to help patients maintain or improve academic performance and ensure a smooth transition back to their home school setting.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct instruction to acute child/adolescent patients.
• Maintain or improve patients’ academic performance levels during hospitalization.
• Facilitate a smooth post-discharge transition back to the home school setting.
• Collaborate with the patient’s home school counselors and district personnel throughout hospitalization and post-discharge.
• Develop and implement classroom lesson plans and grading within working hours to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Respond quickly and calmly under stressful or emergency situations.

Requirements

• Valid Arkansas Teaching License with certification in Special Education for the appropriate grade levels.
• Current CPR or BLS certification (training offered at facility).
• Current Handle with Care training (training offered at facility).
• General knowledge of state and federal laws governing Special Education—Approved School Programs.

Qualifications

• Preferred: One year of experience working in a psychiatric inpatient setting with patients aged 5–65+.
• Preferred: Prior classroom teaching experience.

• Ability to work within a team and take direction from Lead Education staff and Clinical Services Director.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of and ability to respond to complex written and oral instructions.
