TEACHER - SOCIAL STUDIES
Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care and education services for adolescents, ages 11–17, who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, educational, family, and social challenges. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home.
About the role
The Teacher will provide educational leadership for students in a Hospital/Homebound school classroom, contracted with the Manatee County school district. The role maintains a 4:1 student-to-staff ratio for behavior support, with additional assistance from on-site psychiatrists, a board-certified behavior analyst, therapists, and a full medical team. The position follows state and county rules and regulations for Hospital/Homebound sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Maximize the educational achievement of each student.
- Review student records to develop an understanding of each student’s abilities and needs.
- Teach Social Studies for grades 6–12.
- Adhere to facility and school board policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university.
- Florida Educators certificate required by the Florida Department of Education (Social Studies, grades 6–12 preferred).
- Certified in ESE (Exceptional Student Education) or willing to become certified within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of educational theories and classroom teaching strategies.
- Ability to work with multi-level/multi-grade students in a small class environment.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to facility mission and policies.
- Pass a Level 2 background check and pre-employment drug screen.
