About the role
The Social Studies Teacher coaches, motivates, and instructs high school students within the company’s mastery-based educational model, tailoring instruction to each student’s Individual Graduation Plan (IGP). The teacher acts as both an educator and mentor, ensuring student success through a student-centered, high-accountability learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a learning environment aligned with the school’s academic goals, emphasizing student accountability in reading and content-area mastery.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the reading process and apply best practices in teaching, intervention, and instructional techniques.
- Maintain, disaggregate, and provide progress-monitoring reports, reading records, benchmark data, and other student records as required by district, state, or company guidelines.
- Collaborate with peers to develop and implement best educational practices tailored to students’ individual academic needs and aligned with company goals.
- Participate in professional development to maintain required certifications or credentials.
- Support initiatives to meet defined enrollment and attendance goals (FTE).
- Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring alignment with company policies and educational objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with a major in social science, social studies, history, political science, geography, philosophy, sociology, economics, or psychology.
- Teacher Certification or Statement of Eligibility in Social Science 6-12.
- Minimum one (1) year of high school teaching experience.
- Preferred: Experience working with over-age and at-risk youth.
Skills
- Knowledge of secondary education principles and curriculum/instructional theory.
- Ability to analyze and use data to drive program improvement.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
