About the Role

Provide quality instruction aligned to state and national standards. Use a variety of assessment strategies—diagnostic, formative, and summative—to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning. Rigorous inquiry-based learning tasks engage students in deep content of the discipline as well as the habits of scholarship. May be required to work as a member of the campus STEM team to ensure quality integrated instruction across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Teach high school Social Studies, implementing Minnesota State Standards and District Graduation Requirements.
• Apply knowledge of subject matter, classroom management techniques, current best practices, and students' learning styles and needs.
• Teach required curricula using strategies that foster thinking, reasoning, and problem solving.
• Collaborate with peers to develop and implement best practices based on student needs and abilities.
• Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs and provide appropriate instruction.
• Create safe, respectful, and engaging learning environments that are multicultural, gender-fair, and ability-inclusive.
• Collaborate and communicate regularly with families to support educational decisions and leverage community resources.
• Align instruction with the goals of the Minneapolis Public School District Improvement Agenda and site/school goals.
• Assess instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process (PDP).
• Participate in ongoing professional development, including staff, team, and individual learning opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
• Prior successful experience student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting.
• Demonstrated continued professional development through coursework, research, peer collaboration, or job-embedded staff development.
• Valid Minnesota teaching license in Tier 2-4 Social Studies (5-8, 5-12, or 5-9) or proof of pending approved licensure, OR MN Tier 1 middle school Social Studies license (offer required to obtain).
