Teacher Sixth Grade Social Studies

About the role

As a Social Studies Teacher, you will have the opportunity to change lives through education as you guide students through world and U.S. history and geography while they learn about responsible citizenship and America’s place in global history. You will do meaningful work that makes a difference for our students by:

• Implementing instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
• Identifying, selecting, and modifying instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
• Utilizing direct instruction techniques to guide students through activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth.
• Assisting in assessing changing curricular needs and offering plans for improvement.
• Maintaining effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
• Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
• Collaborating with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
• Modeling professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
• Ensuring that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
• Participating in training and staff meetings.
• Meeting professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating meetings as needed.
• Evaluating each student’s learning capabilities and celebrating student accomplishments.
• Encouraging students to uphold our values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on campus, and throughout their lives.
• Being active in the role when light lifting, sitting, standing, moving throughout the campus, and traveling to other campuses as required.
• Participating in events outside of normal hours.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid SEI Endorsement/Certification or ability to obtain.
• The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• A current teaching certificate from within the state where the position is located.

Physical and Travel Requirements

• Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
• This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
• This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and long periods of concentration.
• Local and in-state travel required.
