General Description

The Human Body Systems Teacher plans, delivers, and evaluates rigorous, project-based instruction based upon specific standards and objectives established by Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS), as well as the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science pathway. The teacher engages students in hands-on learning experiences that explore the structure, function, and interaction of human body systems while developing critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills aligned with college and career readiness.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides instruction at the location(s) and time(s) designated
  • Develops and maintains the physical environment of the classroom that is conducive to effective learning
  • Plans, delivers, and evaluates appropriate curriculum content and instructional activities based upon both CCPS and PLTW standards and objectives
  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request by supervisor(s)
  • Provides students the opportunity to participate in a Career and Technical Student Organization
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Affords students the opportunity to participate in a Career and Technical Student Organization
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs
  • Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management
  • Supervises students in non-classroom time, including before and afterschool, during student activities, and during safety drills
  • Collaborates with other faculty to plan and deliver instruction to students
  • Communicates regularly with parents and administrators
  • Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations, and guidelines related to public schools
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Budgetary Responsibility

This position may assist in the preparation of an assigned budget for the content area.

Report Preparation

Prepares reports related to student progress and content area, as requested

Equipment Operation

Uses standard office and education equipment, as well as content-specific equipment

Contacts

Regular contact with all levels of CCPS personnel, as well as parents and students

Work Direction/Supervision

This position does not provide work direction or supervision to others.

Decision Making

Performs majority of functions independently

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of instruction, learning theory, and teaching methodologies
  • General knowledge of the academic curriculum for assigned class(es)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals for students
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and monitor budget, if assigned
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other instructional personnel and to communicate instructional goals to others effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning

Additional Job Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license or a Virginia Technical Professional License with an endorsement in the content area
  • Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests:
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation
  • State Police Criminal History Investigation
  • Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
  • Tuberculosis Screening/Test

$55,446.62 - $83,594.34
