About the Role

The teacher is responsible for developing an atmosphere for learning that is pleasant for children, families, volunteers, and staff. They will plan and implement an appropriate program following the Integrated Work Plan to address the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development of each child. The teacher will coordinate classroom and home visit activities while fostering positive relationships with children and families, and encouraging parents in their role as their child’s first teacher.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, including reflective supervision, delegation, and evaluation to all staff and volunteers assigned to the classroom. Offer role modeling and training for assistants, aides, and volunteers.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and classroom schedules that meet the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Performance Standards, School Readiness Guide, and program goals. Share and post lesson plans and schedules.
• Ensure baseline screenings, ongoing assessment, and data collection are completed to individualize activities that meet children’s developmental needs, including IFSP goals as needed.
• Ensure individualizing is planned throughout the day, including IFSP goals, and clearly indicated on lesson plans. Develop and support behavior plans to increase child capacity and success.
• Maintain all written records, lesson plans, and documentation on individual children and their families within program timeframes.
• Promote parents’ skills as primary educators through advocacy, support, collaboration, and regular communication.
• Ensure constant supervision of children using active supervision and positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS).
• Maintain a well-organized, safe, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Carry out routines consistent with child development practices and health and safety guidelines.
• Assist with collecting in-kind donations for the center and year-end inventory.
• Complete a minimum of 24 clock hours of professional development per year.
• Maintain program and client confidentiality policies and fulfill requirements as a Mandatory reporter.
• Implement program plans, policies, and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Additional Responsibilities

• Act as a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member, treating co-workers, families, and community partners with respect.
• Attend and participate in program staff meetings and share information from required trainings and workshops.
• Support the evaluation and planning of program goals.
• Maintain professional relationships by supporting program contracts, MOUs, and interagency agreements.
• Maintain professionalism in dress, punctuality, and communication, including checking email and site-specific systems daily.
• Ensure strict confidentiality of all sensitive information.

Requirements

• Experience and education in children’s learning styles.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team, follow directions, and adhere to program rules and policies.
• Must be on the Central Background Registry, pass a pre-employment drug screening, and complete a TB screen.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, and attend out-of-town meetings or trainings requiring overnight stays.
• Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Google Drive.
• Ability to work with families from diverse populations.
• Ability to de-escalate situations, problem-solve efficiently, and bring issues to resolution.
• Ability to return to task quickly despite constant interruptions.
