About the role

With supervision, provides comprehensive early intervention services to visually impaired preschool-aged children and their families.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates and participates in the development, review, and evaluation of individualized family service plans (IFSP).
• Coordinates the performance of evaluations and assessments.
• Assists families in identifying available service providers.
• Coordinates and monitors the delivery of services, including health and therapy services, as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
• Conducts evaluation and assessment procedures to determine a child's developmental status and continuing eligibility.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and implements periodic reviews of the IFSP for each child and family.
• Provides parent education and training on an individual and group basis, including conducting home visits.
• Designs learning environments and activities to promote skill acquisition across developmental areas.
• Provides families with information, skills, and support related to their child’s development.
• Plans materials and resources to achieve IFSP outcomes and provides direct instruction to enhance development.
• Provides in-service training to staff and speaks to community groups about the instruction program.
• Performs additional duties as assigned, which may include using a personal vehicle.

Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of special education principles, practices, and procedures, including developing and writing IEPs and teaching techniques.
• Experience working with students with autism and sensory disorders strongly preferred.
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education; special education certification required with the ability to work toward obtaining TVI certification.
• General knowledge of visual impairment, including causes, manifestations, and adaptations.
• Some knowledge of medical disorders (e.g., seizures or restrictions), adaptive technology, alternate modes of communication, and behavior management principles.
• General knowledge of core and expanded core curriculum, program development, classroom resource management, and student/personnel scheduling.

Work Environment

Multiple indoor and outdoor environments with varying sound, lighting, and temperature conditions. May be exposed to various conditions when providing direct care to students.

Schedule

35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. This position follows an 11-month school schedule. Additional hours or a flexible schedule may be required.
