Reports to: Principal. FLSA status: Exempt. Full-time (1.0 FTE) certified position on a 197-day work calendar.

About the Role

Create a flexible elementary-grade program and a classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth. Build effective rapport with pupils, motivate them to develop foundational skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and maintain strong relationships with parents and staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Teach district-approved curriculum and instruct students in citizenship and state-mandated subjects.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small-group instruction tailored to each pupil’s needs.
  • Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain classroom behavior standards to ensure an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth; keep records and prepare progress reports.
  • Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies for individual education plans.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of teacher aides, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Create a stimulating learning environment through displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student work.
  • Build and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate.
  • Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement required.
  • Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Knowledge

  • Reading and interpreting documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Writing general correspondence and speaking effectively with others.
  • Basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Principles and practices of program administration.
  • Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Best practices, trends, and emerging technologies in education.
  • Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
  • Uses and properties of classroom supplies and equipment.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to the teaching assignment.

Skills

  • Applying reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with minimal assistance.
  • Interpreting varied instructions presented in different forms.
  • Performing basic original research to develop teaching plans and instructional materials.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation.
  • Organizing and maintaining records, files, and program information.
  • Gathering data, analyzing findings, and applying logic and reason.
  • Authorizing and preparing original reports, documents, and presentations.
  • Researching industry trends, solutions, and best practices.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Utilizing computers and relevant software applications.
  • Employing communication and interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the public, and others.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Positions require stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
  • Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
