RESPONSIBILITIES
- Affirms educational needs of patients.
- Contacts previous educational settings and reviews records.
- Assesses, supervises, or approves educational needs before Diagnostic Conference.
- Prepares assessments in departmental format.
- Generates lesson plans no later than second day of programming.
- Writes detailed lesson plans reflecting major academic areas.
- Makes lesson plans accessible to substitutes.
- Reviews and updates lesson plans weekly.
- Maintains a conducive learning environment.
- Provides academic assignments and materials at start of day.
- Offers individualized help as needed.
- Behaves professionally and reports on time.
- Completes IEP preparation and presentation.
- Reports on child’s academic progress.
- Identifies factors impeding progress and states strategies.
- Assists in discharge process and informs local schools.
- Ensures academic recommendations are communicated.
- Functions effectively on interdisciplinary team.
- Maintains positive relationships with team members.
- Consults with other clinical staff.
- Aids in interpreting evaluations.
- Participates in departmental activities.
- Shares expertise and supports other staff.
- Participates in Total Quality Management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in special education.
- Certification from Rhode Island Department of Education (appropriate handicapped certifications).
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills for patient care across lifespan.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of one year teaching experience.
