Key Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of students with visual impairments and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Provide direct instruction in braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of assistive technology
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and families to create inclusive learning environments
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting instruction as needed
- Conduct assessments and maintain accurate documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- State certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with students with visual impairments
- Knowledge of braille and assistive technologies
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to design and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to visual impairments
- Commitment to fostering independence and academic achievement in students
