Teacher of Bass

Accountabilities

The Department of Music at Colgate University invites applications for the position of Teacher of Bass, beginning in Fall 2026. This part-time role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong commitment to teaching and a passion for fostering musical growth in a liberal arts setting. Colgate faculty are committed to excellence in both teaching and scholarship.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

• Demonstrated professional experience as a performer in jazz or related styles on both electric and upright bass.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching bass lessons on a one-on-one basis, with preference for experience teaching at the collegiate level.
• Professional performance experience preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate and work with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

Preferred Qualifications

• Private lesson teaching experience including beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.
• Orchestral performance experience.
• Experience with classical bass methods and repertoire as a teacher, student, and/or performer.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in music required, master's degree preferred.

Flexible availability required to accommodate student violin lessons across any weekday.
