About the role

This .5 FTE position serves as both a Music Teacher and Performing Arts Center (PAC) Coordinator at the high school level. The role is salaried, exempt, and operates on a 10-month schedule under the supervision of the High School Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Music Teacher (.5 FTE):
    • Develop and administer curriculum aligned with CCS goals and objectives
    • Create a classroom environment that supports individualized and small group instruction and student learning
    • Design lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress and adapt instructional methods to meet individual needs, including students with special needs
    • Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents
    • Organize and maintain accurate records for grading, attendance, and student achievement
    • Enforce CCS Student Code of Conduct, Uniform Code, and Computer Usage Code
    • Model good citizenship and professional ethics
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school records
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or school administrator
    • Adhere to CCS Employee Handbook, policies, and Pennsylvania public school expectations
  • Performing Arts Center (PAC) Coordinator (.5 FTE):
    • Act as liaison with internal and external departments/groups
    • Encourage membership in arts organizations and serve on relevant boards and committees when possible
    • Maintain and update the PAC calendar
    • Stay current on developments in performing arts center technology, maintenance, and training
    • Collaborate with in-district users, public renters, designers, and directors to support program development and technical needs
    • Coordinate with band and choral directors for scheduling and related functions
    • Train, supervise, and monitor student assistants and staff to provide technical education in a safe environment
    • Oversee box office, front-of-house, auditorium, rehearsal, and storage areas
    • Manage Collegium’s Center Stage Theater (CCST), including performance selection, staff supervision, volunteer coordination, and administrative support for student performers
    • Provide on-the-spot supervision at all PAC functions; assist with contract obligations, set-up completion, and audience management
    • Develop and administer educational and outreach programs for the PAC
    • Serve as the primary contact for educational opportunities related to the PAC
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree
  • Pennsylvania Certification in Music Education PK-12; Pennsylvania Certification in Technology Education PK-12 is recommended
  • If certification is from another state, Pennsylvania certification must be obtained within a specified timeframe
  • Demonstrated competence as a classroom teacher
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and universal design for learning
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and stakeholders
  • Experience with learning management systems, preferably Schoology
  • Required clearances: Criminal Background (Act 34), Child Abuse (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt
  • Meets criteria for employment in a Pennsylvania public school
  • Experience scheduling physical resources and coordinating with groups
  • Experience operating staging components, technology booth, and other auditorium systems
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, administration, agencies, and the community

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Work environment noise level is typically mild to moderate depending on the specific site
